Water Rights Price Index (WRPIx) Update

The WRPIx uses WestWater’s database of water market transactions to track a composite of prices from 14 major and secondary water rights markets in the western U.S. The objective is to provide investors with a performance benchmark for the emerging water rights market.

WestWater announces the release of 2012 WRPIx data. Water right prices showed little change from 2011 to 2012.

– Gains in the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District and California markets were offset by declining prices in Nevada’s Truckee Basin, New Mexico’s Middle Rio Grande Basin, and Colorado’s South Platte Basin.

– Prices in Arizona, Washington, Utah, Colorado’s Arkansas Basin, and the Lower Rio Grande Valley in Texas remained flat. While the total volume of water traded in 2012 declined from 2011, the number of transactions increased. A total of $116.2mm changed hands in 2012 compared to $92.1mm in 2011.
